Print Your Own Invitations: DIY Letterpress Workshop
In this private workshop, you’ll letterpress print your own invitations on our Chandler & Price printing press. You’ll learn the basics of mixing ink and letterpress production printing. Your supplied design will be made into a plate and will be registered on the paper stock, so once you arrive we’ll mix the ink and begin printing! Bring your partner, or a friend – and of course, dogs are welcome too.
Don’t have a design? Need help setting up your artwork for letterpress? No problem, email us to discuss. We’d be happy to assist.
No letterpress experience necessary. All materials (except for the design) are included. All you need to bring is an appetite for getting inky and closed toed shoes.
You'll learn the fundamentals of letterpress through:
- Mixing a Pantone ink
- Feeding paper into the press
- Running the job
You will take home (along with your newfound skills):
- Your own one-colour wedding invitations (that you letterpress printed yourself!)
- Matching envelopes for your invitations
- Enamel printing pin
- 3 x Hungry Workshop greeting cards from our shop
Time: 2 - 3 hour class (depending on quantity)
Day: Monday - Friday, weekends subject to availability
Location: Hungry Workshop, 461 High Street, Northcote VIC 3070
Size: 127 x 177mm

The nitty gritty:
Due to the ever changing nature of COVID-19 virus, we are taking all precautions to protect our health and the health of our clients during this uncertain time. Please get in touch before booking a workshop to confirm the availability.
The Chandler & Price printing press is over 110 years old, it’s hand-fed and foot-treadled. It’s a beautiful beast, but the letterpress print isn’t as crisp and clean as our larger production presses. There will likely be inconsistencies in registration and ink, so please keep that in mind when designing your artwork.
We need 2 weeks prior to your preferred print date to schedule and order supplies. Please email us three possible times and dates. Generally, weekdays between 10am - 4pm are always available, weekends are subject to availability.
If your artwork doesn’t have bleed and there’s 10mm margin around the outside, we’ll print on pre-cut sheets so you can take your printed invitations home at the end of the class. If your artwork has bleed we’ll cut them down on the following business day and they’ll be available to pick up from our Northcote studio during business hours or be delivered (cost depends on how far they’re going).
This workshop does not include a history of letterpress, setting up the presses or two colour registration, if you’re interested in that side of things we run a monthly Introduction to Letterpress workshop.
NB: This class is non-refundable once you’ve emailed through your artwork. We can reschedule the class with 48 hour’s notice, pending availability.
